BOSENTAS - Used for: Treating high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary arterial hypertension). BOSENTAS is an endothelin receptor antagonist. It works by blocking a certain substance in the lungs, which helps to decrease blood pressure in the lungs. BOSENTAS prevents thickening of the blood vessels, especially those in the lungs and heart. BOSENTAS also lowers blood pressure in your lungs, helping your heart pump blood more efficiently. BOSENTAS is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It improves your ability to exercise and prevents your condition from getting worse. BOSENTAS may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Pharmacology: Antagonizes endothelin receptor by binding to endothelin A and endothelin B receptors in the endothelium and vascular smooth muscle. Indication: Treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (WHO group 1) to improve exercise ability and decrease the rate of clinical worsening. Unlabeled Uses Prevention of digital ulcers in systemic sclerosis; prevention of Raynaud phenomenon. BOSENTAS belongs to a class of drugs known as endothelin receptor antagonists (ERAs). Patients with PAH have elevated levels of endothelin, a potent blood vessel constrictor, in their plasma and lung tissue. BOSENTAS blocks the binding of endothelin to its receptors, thereby negating endothelin's deleterious effects. | |
