About HYDREA 500 MG Tablet

Hydroxyurea affects certain cells in the body, including cancer cells and sickled red blood cells.

Uses:

• Treats chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML)
• Treats ovarian cancer
• Treats certain types of skin cancer such as melanoma and primary squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
• Reduces pain episodes and the need for blood transfusions in people with sickle cell anemia (Note: It does not cure sickle cell anemia)
• May be used with radiation therapy to control skin cancers of the head and neck
• Other uses as determined by your doctor

Mechanism of Action:

Hydroxyurea is an antineoplastic agent that works by preventing necessary steps for cancer cell growth and reproduction, leading to cell death.

Synergy:

Hydroxyurea shows dose-dependent synergistic activity with cisplatin (a chemotherapy drug), especially when given about 4 hours before cisplatin, enhancing anti-cancer effects in some lung cancer models.

Indications:

• Management of melanoma
• Resistant chronic myelocytic leukemia
• Recurrent, metastatic, or inoperable carcinoma of the ovary
• Sickle-cell anemia
